Five Flower Lake in the Spring
Jiuzhaijou's Five Flower Lake, as its name implies, has various colors, due to multiple factors such as the calcareous sediments in the bottom, different algae in the lake, and the colorful forests that are reflected in the surface. Jiuzhaigou Valley is a World Heritage Site located in Sichuan Province. You might recognize this photograph as a screensaver on your Machintosh computer.

Michael Yamashita is an American photographer who was born in San Francisco, but grew up in New Jersey. He graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in Asian studies and later went to Japan for seven years. He began working for the National Geographic in 1979. For the past ten years he has specialized in Asia, including China and Tibet. He is also an author of more than nine photographic books, including "Shangri-La [along the tea road to lhasa]", Zheng He: Tracing the Epic Voyages of China’s Greatest Explorer, Japan: The Soul of a Nation, Marco Polo, A Photographer’s Journey, and many others. In addition, his Silk Road series have been revived with China’s Belt & Road initiatives. He has had over 12 exhibits globally on this new “Silk Road Initiative.” He has won numerous awards from the National Press Photographers Association and the Asian American Journalists Association. National Press Photographers Association and the Asian American Journalists Association. He is also a frequent lecturer and conducts workshops across Asia and the United States.
